Who is a Non Resident Indian?

Any person who is an Indian citizen and has gone out of the country for business, employment or any occupation or vocation or for any other purpose with an intention to stay outside India for an uncertain period is a Non Resident Indian.

And

A foreign national of Indian origin.

A foreign national (not a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh) is deemed to be a person of Indian origin if he, at any time, has held an Indian passport or he or any of his parents or grandparents has been a citizen of India as per the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 or under the Constitution of India.

The bank Accounts that can be opened.

1. NRE ACCOUNT (Non Resident External Account)

2. NRO ACCOUNT (Ordinary Non Resident Account)

3. FCNR ACCOUNT (Foreign Currency Non Resident Account)
